Poker Player: Stu Unger

The main reason why Stu Ungar changed from gin to poker was that Stu was a bit too good at it. So skilled was he, that no one possibly could stand up to him. Even the commonly called professionals who were meant to be the most favorable at gin were blow away when they played against Mr. Ungar. One of these gin rummy player was Harry Stein, nicknamed, "Yonkie". Harry suffered such a crushing defeat at the hands of stu that he apparently quit competing in it as a pro and never resurfaced at a gin tournament.

Accordingly, with a reputation like that it wasn’t long before people became shy of wagering against Stu Ungar. He couldn’t find any games and in his bleakness he began doing something no one had done before. He presented starting handicaps to potential opposing players with the wish that they might just compete against him if they believed they had an advantage. He at will played from a negative arrangement and one tale has it that stu even competed with a constant bad egg. Mid match, he get advice that the cheater was at it once more but stu stated that he knew of the dishonestly and he would still acquire a win, which of course, he did.

The same problem followed Stu Ungar to Las Vegas. He won so often that the poker rooms started requesting that he not to gamble in their casinos anymore. The explanation why was that other casino players would not sit at the poker table if he were seated.

Stu Ungar is recollected better for his abilities in holdem poker but he himself always maintained that he was far better at gin rummy.

He beat Doyle Brunson in the World Series of Poker in Nineteen Eighty and became the youngest world champion. Because of his features that made him seem far younger than he actually was, he was nicknamed, "The Kid".
