Stu Ungar is thought to be by most to the finest NL Hold em Poker player ever.
The 3 time World Poker Champ was born in New York in 1953 and began betting poker prior to becomming a teenager.
The young gambler began playing gin and at the age of 10 had won his primary gin tournament, while on vacation with his mother and father. By the time he turned fourteen the little poker genius had become a professional and stopped going to school.
In 1954 Stu entered the record books by winning 10,000 dollars in a gin tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still stands in New York these days.
The fast talking wiz kid has been compared, in poker terms, to athletic greats such as Joe Namath and Kobe Bryant. Stu Ungar had a true ability for wagering poker but in spite of his achievements in Hold’em poker, he favored wagering gin.
Stu once said that there might a number of day be a better No Limit Hold em gambler than him except he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a far better gin gambler.
In ‘80 Stu Ungar was put on the global map as one of the ideal Hold em Poker players in the world when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the first time. Extraordinarily it was the very first time he had entered the tournament.
The right after year he put aside any suggestions that it had been luck, by effectively protecting his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.
But this poker master also fought with drug abuse and a year right after winning his 3rd title Stu died in his hotel room. According to medical professionals, he had passed away from cardiac arrest which was triggered by his lifestyle.
Stu had started with absolutely nothing but his skill and natural talent for the casino game which made this poker good a millionaire a lot of times over.
