No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
