Net High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He often competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world may be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
