Omaha Hi-Lo: General Outline

[ English ]

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players can get baffled. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same approach in almost all poker games.

A lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem complex initially, following a few hands you will be able to pick up on the base nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an amazing collection of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals trying for the high, and a few trying for the low. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
