NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
