Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
