Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
