Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the last game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While betting on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
