Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the closing game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world may be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
