No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
