Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
