Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the closing table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I think television can alter our view of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world may be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
