Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest players around the world. While playing web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
